How much does DocuSign cost per envelope?

By the nodshake team. Published 14 October 2026, updated 14 October 2026.

On DocuSign's yearly plans paid upfront, an envelope costs about $2.00 on Personal, $3.00 on Standard and $4.80 on Business Pro if you use your whole allowance. On monthly billing it is $3.00, $4.50 and $6.50. Unused envelopes raise the real cost, and DocuSign does not publish its price above the limit.

Key points

  • Cost per envelope is the plan price divided by the envelopes you actually send, so the quoted figure is the best case.
  • Yearly billing paid upfront is the cheapest way to buy; monthly billing costs 35% to 50% more per envelope on the same plan.
  • DocuSign counts an envelope when it is sent, signed or not.
  • Above the limit DocuSign mentions pay-as-you-go but does not publish the rate on its pricing page.

What each plan costs per envelope

These figures use DocuSign's own pricing page, read on 13 October 2026.[1] Cost per envelope is the price per month divided by the envelopes included per month, which assumes you use every one.

DocuSign's page also shows a yearly price billed monthly, at $11, $30 and $45 a month. On the same allowances that is Personal $2.20, Standard $3.60, Business Pro $5.40 an envelope.[1]

How to work out your own cost

Divide what you pay in a year by the envelopes you really sent. If you pay $300 for a year of Standard and send 40 envelopes, each one cost you $7.50, not $3.00.[1]

  • Count envelopes sent, not documents signed: a sent envelope counts toward the limit whether or not it is signed.[1]
  • Divide the yearly price by your real yearly count.
  • Compare the result with the alternatives in the cost calculator and the DocuSign alternatives guide.

What the pricing page does not tell you

  • The price above your limit. DocuSign refers to pay-as-you-go but does not publish a rate.[1]
  • Whether unused envelopes carry over. The page does not say.[1]
  • The default view on the page is yearly billed monthly, so the headline price is higher than the paid-upfront price.

If you only send a handful of documents a month, a smaller plan or a different vendor can cost much less. If you send 1,000 or more a month, see nodshake for business and how nodshake pricing works. Free plans at BoldSign (25 envelopes a month) and Zoho Sign (5 a month) cover many freelancers.[2][3]
