Embedded signing explained: signing inside your own app

By the nodshake team. Published 14 October 2026, updated 14 October 2026.

Embedded signing means the person signs inside your own website or app instead of following an emailed link to the vendor's page. It is a plan feature that differs by vendor: DocuSign's developer table lists it only on Enhanced, Dropbox Sign starts it on Standard, and BoldSign, SignWell, Documenso and SignNow include it. Check approval steps and branding before you build.

Key points

  • Embedded signing keeps the signer in your product instead of sending them to the vendor's page.
  • DocuSign's pricing table lists it only on Enhanced (contact sales); the table text is not confirmed elsewhere.
  • Dropbox Sign needs an app approval before you move to production.
  • Embedding is often priced as a plan tier or a fee per document, so compare it as a unit cost.

What it is and why companies use it

In a normal flow your system sends an envelope and the signer gets an email from the vendor. With embedded signing your system shows the signing step on your own page, so the customer never leaves your product. It is used for onboarding, checkout and contract flows. Embedded sending, where your users prepare the document inside your app, is a separate feature that some vendors list on its own.

Who offers it and on what plan

From each vendor's own pages, read 14 October 2026, from a Pakistan connection (Dropbox Sign and Adobe price by region).[1][7][3][4][5][6][8]

What to check before you build

  • Is embedding in your plan, or a higher one? DocuSign's table puts it on Enhanced only.[1]
  • Is there a review before production? Dropbox Sign requires an app approval.[2]
  • Does the signer see the vendor's brand? See white-label e-signature.
  • Are test signatures legally valid? DocuSign says developer-account envelopes are not.[1]
  • Is the audit record the same as in the normal flow? See the audit trail guide.

nodshake Business / API starts from $0.30 per signed document. Volume pricing is agreed in writing. API access, white-label signing or bulk sending are available on request. Ask what your design needs through nodshake for business. Need it built for you? Our team offers paid setup and migration.

Questions

What is embedded signing?
Signing inside your own website or app instead of on the vendor's page, so the signer does not leave your product.
Does DocuSign include embedded signing on its API plans?
Its developer pricing table lists embedded signing as included only on Enhanced and as not included on Starter, Intermediate and Advanced. We did not find that confirmed elsewhere, so ask DocuSign.
Does embedded signing need approval?
At Dropbox Sign, yes: its documentation says an app approval is needed before moving into production.
