Choosing an e-signature provider as a company: a checklist

By the nodshake team. Published 14 October 2026, updated 14 October 2026.

Check six things in order: the real cost per envelope at your volume, whether the API plan includes what you need, branding, bulk send, the audit record, and whether the law covers your documents. Published API prices differ widely: $0.20 (DocuSeal's embedding fee, on top of a seat) to $7.20 (DocuSign Advanced billed monthly; $4.80 billed annually). Several features are quote only.

Key points

  • Compare cost per envelope you actually send, not the plan headline.
  • Features such as embedded signing, bulk send and branding sit on specific plans; check each against your plan.
  • Ask for a sample audit record and the retention period in writing.
  • Ask any vendor, including nodshake, for security answers in writing before you sign a contract.

The checklist

Each row names the guide with the sourced facts (read 14 October 2026, from a Pakistan connection (Dropbox Sign and Adobe price by region)); the links follow the table.

The guides behind each check

How to run the comparison

  • Write down your monthly envelopes, recipients per bulk send and countries.
  • Get the price in writing for that volume, since several pages say contact sales.
  • Ask for a sample audit record and the retention period.
  • Ask who owns security questions and answers. Re-read the price page in 3 months, because they change.

Not established in our research: DocuSign's price above a developer plan's envelope limit, which plans include DocuSign Connect (webhooks), and its bulk send limit (its pricing table lists bulk send both ways on Advanced); Whether DocuSign bulk-send copies each count against the envelope allowance; What Dropbox Sign charges or does over a tier, and how a bulk send counts against it; Adobe Acrobat Sign API prices (quote only) and Adobe's bulk send limit; PandaDoc API prices (the pricing page could not be read); BoldSign's bulk send add-on price; Prices outside Pakistan, where Adobe and Dropbox Sign vary by region.

Where nodshake fits

nodshake Business / API starts from $0.30 per signed document. Volume pricing is agreed in writing. API access, white-label signing or bulk sending are available on request. Security questions are answered in writing. nodshake counts a signed document; most vendors above count an envelope or request when it is sent, so the two are not the same basis. Start at nodshake for business or the company form; see pricing for the other plans, and the cost calculator for per-user plans. Need it built for you? Our team offers paid setup and migration.

Questions

What should a company check first when choosing an e-signature provider?
The real cost per envelope at your volume, then whether the plan includes API access, embedded signing, branding and bulk send. Several of these are quote only.
Should I trust the plan headline price?
No. Divide the price by the envelopes you will really send. A flat plan is cheapest per envelope only when you use the whole allowance.
What should I ask for in writing?
The price at your volume, the overage rule, a sample audit record, the retention period and answers to your security questions.
